Result? All genealogical records linking people to King David were lost. No records = no way to prove Davidic ancestry = anyone could claim to be the Messiah on a long enough timeline. This begs the question: Why didn't the Bible just say 'lineage of Adam'? What's the point of a prophecy that just means 'the Messiah will be some person someday'?
